Meet Claude for Small Business: 15 Ready-to-Run Agentic Workflows to Automate Payroll, Invoices, and Campaigns

Anthropic has officially extended Claude's reach to Main Street. The company has introduced Claude for Small Business, a packaged suite of connectors and ready-to-run agentic workflows that embed Claude inside the tools small business owners already depend on. Anthropic aims to have its AI handle real tasks, such as closing books, following up on invoices, planning payroll, and managing campaigns, and not just answer questions in a chat window.

Small businesses make up 44% of the United States GDP and employ nearly half of the private-sector workforce. However, they are adopting AI at a slower rate than larger companies because most AI tools are not designed for how small and medium-sized businesses operate.

How Claude for Small Business Works

The product runs as a one-click plugin inside Claude Cowork, and is currently available only in the Claude desktop app. Owners install it, connect the apps they already use, pick a task, and Claude executes, but every action that sends, posts, or pays requires user approval first.

It ships with 15 ready-to-run agentic workflows covering finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service, plus 15 skills built on the repeatable tasks owners flagged as their biggest time drains.

Key built-in workflows include:

  • Payroll planning: Compares the cash available in QuickBooks with incoming PayPal payments. It can create a 30-day forecast, list overdue invoices by priority, and set up reminder emails for approvals.
  • Month-end close: Checks the records against payments, highlights any mismatches, writes a clear P&L summary, and prepares a close packet to send to your accountant.
  • Morning business brief: Gathers the cash position, PayPal payments, HubSpot sales updates, and your weekly schedule into one report. It will show the three important items that need your attention today.
  • Marketing campaigns: Identifies revenue slow stretches, analyzes HubSpot campaign performance, drafts a promo strategy, and generates branded assets in Canva.

Additional skills include an invoice chaser, margin analyzer, tax-season organizer, contract reviewer, lead triager, and content strategist.

The Connector Stack

Each integration owns a defined job:

  • PayPal: Settlements, invoicing, disputes, and refunds.
  • Intuit QuickBooks: Payroll, monthly close, cash-flow, tax prep, and reconciliation.
  • HubSpot: Lead triage, customer pulse, and campaign attribution. Notably, HubSpot built the first CRM connector for Claude.
  • Canva: Content generation, team editing, publishing, and performance tracking.
  • DocuSign: Sends contracts for signature, tracks status, and files executed copies.

The plugin also pulls context from Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, and Google Drive through their respective connectors.

Trust and Data Posture

In a survey by Anthropic, half of small business owners said their biggest worry about AI is data security. To address this, the company has three main commitments:

  • Every task is user-initiated and approval-gated.
  • Existing app permissions remain enforced (if an employee can't see a Drive folder today, they can't see it through Claude).
  • Anthropic does not train on customer data by default on Team and Enterprise plans.

Training, the SMB Tour, and Public Benefit Push

Anthropic launched a free online course called AI Fluency for Small Business, a free on-demand course co-developed with PayPal. The course is taught by small business owners who have successfully used AI in their businesses and shops.

The company is also kicking off the Claude SMB Tour, a free half-day live workshop for up to 100 local business leaders at each stop, hosted in partnership with Tenex.co. Attendees receive a one-month subscription to Claude Max. The current schedule:

  • Chicago, IL — May 14, 2026
  • Tulsa, OK — May 19, 2026
  • Dallas, TX — May 20, 2026
  • Hamilton Township, NJ — June 3, 2026
  • Baton Rouge, LA — June 10, 2026
  • Birmingham, AL — June 12, 2026
  • Salt Lake City, UT — June 16, 2026
  • Baltimore, MD — June 18, 2026
  • San Jose, CA — June 22, 2026
  • Indianapolis, IN — June 26, 2026

Anthropic is also funding access through the Workday Foundation Solopreneurship Accelerator Program, which in 2026 will equip an initial cohort of 15 aspiring solopreneurs with seed funding, Claude credits, and an AI-first curriculum developed by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). Three Community Development Financial Institutions, Accion Opportunity Fund, Community Reinvestment Fund USA, and Pacific Community Ventures, are receiving Claude credits and technical support to help more small businesses access capital.

Bottomline:

Anthropic's message is clear: small businesses don't need just another AI chatbot. They need something that can handle tasks after hours. Anthropic has made its clearest pitch yet to be exactly that with Claude for Small Business.
