Meet Gemini Spark: Your Personal AI Agent That Runs 24/7 Across Gmail, Calendar, and Drive

We have seen, tried, and tested multiple autonomous AI agents. Now, there is one more AI agent that has the potential to be your 24/7 personal AI agent for productivity. During Google I/O 26, Google announced Gemini Spark, its first consumer-facing personal AI agent. Gemini Spark is an agentic system designed not just to answer questions, but to actually get things done on your behalf, around the clock, even when your laptop is shut, and your phone is locked.

As we said, we have already seen, tried, and tested multiple autonomous AI agents, and agentic AI has been the industry's most-promised and most progressive idea. Every major AI company and even startups have launched an AI agent, and Google has finally stepped in with Gemini Spark, putting agentic capabilities in the hands of everyday users.

What is Gemini Spark?

Gemini Spark, while it has the Gemini branding, isn't just a reactive AI assistant that just answers your questions; however, it is a proactive and persistent agent. Gemini Spark runs as a cloud-based agent powered by the new Gemini 3.5 Flash model on top of Google's Antigravity agent harness, which means it can chain multi-step actions across apps, pause to check in with you, and resume work hours later without supervision.

Google has built it as an opt-in tool that connects to Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, YouTube, and Maps, which are all switched off by default. The AI agent is designed to ask for permission before performing high-stakes actions, such as sending money or sending an email.

The mental model Google is selling rests on three primitives:

  • Tasks, which are one-off or multi-step tasks, Spark can execute across your apps.
  • Skills, which are reusable, user-defined behaviors (like a "ghostwriter" skill that learns your email voice from your sent folder).
  • Schedules, which are time-based or conditional triggers that make Spark act when something happens, for example, a new client inquiry coming on a Monday morning, or a credit-card statement landing in your inbox.

Together, they form a no-code automation surface aimed squarely at non-developers, while still being expressive enough for power users.

Key features and functions worth knowing:

  • Always-on, cloud-based execution that continues running even when your devices are off or asleep.
  • Native Google Workspace integration with Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, YouTube, and Maps, all user-toggled.
  • Expanding MCP (Model Context Protocol) connections to third-party services, with Canva, OpenTable, and Instacart announced as launch partners.
  • Tasks, Skills, and Schedules are the building blocks for personal workflow automation, with no coding required.
  • Human-in-the-loop safeguards, which means Spark confirms before sending an email, spending money, or executing other consequential actions.
  • Roadmap items include texting and emailing Spark directly, creating custom sub-agents, and operating your local browser.
  • Desktop reach through the Gemini macOS app this summer, where Spark will act on local files and across native applications.

Availability is initially limited:

  • This week, will have a trusted-tester rollout.
  • Then, a beta version will launch in the U.S. for Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18+.
  • Selected business users will also join soon after.

For technical professionals, the key point is that Google is betting on MCP as a long-term solution for integration. For everyone else, the important takeaway is simpler: your inbox, calendar, and weekend trip planning might soon have a 24/7 personal assistant.

The big question is whether Spark will gain the trust of a mass general audience needed to take work off your plate.
