Anthropic just made it a lot easier to put AI to work without learning a single line of code. The company introduced Claude Tag, a new way for whole teams to collaborate with Claude right inside the tools they already use. The first home for it is Slack, and the idea is refreshingly simple: you just type @Claude into a channel, hand over a task in plain English, and get back to your own work while Claude handles it. If you've ever wished you could pull a capable colleague into a thread and say, "Can you take this off my plate?", that's the experience Claude Tag is going for.
What is Claude Tag?
Claude Tag lets you add Claude as a team member to your Slack workspace. An administrator can give it access to selected channels and connect it to the tools, data, and even codebases your team chooses. From there, anyone in those channels can tag @Claude, delegate a task, and let it work. Claude can break the request into stages, work through them using the tools it's been given, and reply in the Slack thread with the results.
It's currently in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers, and it runs on Anthropic's Opus 4.8 model. Anthropic has described it as the next step in the evolution of Claude Code, making the AI more proactive and better suited to working alongside a full team rather than one person in a single chat.
Why this matters for non-technical professionals
You don't need to be an engineer to benefit. Anthropic has noted that internally, the pattern has spread well beyond its engineering team. People now tag Claude to:
- Gather product metrics and data without waiting for manual reports.
- Work through support tickets to keep customer queues moving.
- Help find the root cause of tricky bugs without slowing down the team.
- Hand off routine, time-consuming tasks so they can focus on higher-value work.
For context on how seriously Anthropic takes this, the company says 65% of its product team's code is now created by its internal version of Claude Tag.

The features that set Claude Tag apart
Tagging Claude comes with a few advantages you won't get from a normal one-on-one AI chat:
- It's multiplayer: There's one Claude per channel that everyone interacts with. Anyone can see what it's working on and pick up where a teammate left off, much like collaborating with a real colleague.
- It learns over time: As Claude follows a channel, it will build context so you don't have to re-explain things from scratch. With permission, it can even learn from other channels and connected data sources. (Importantly, it doesn't report from private channels.)
- It takes initiative: When "ambient" behavior is enabled, Claude can proactively flag information you might need and follow up on threads or tasks that have gone quiet.
- It works asynchronously: Set a task and move on. Claude can even schedule work for itself and pursue a project independently for hours or days.
You can also send Claude direct messages for a private reply. It will use the personal tools and connectors you've set up.
In Practice
Let's take a marketing manager, for example, who checks the same campaign numbers every Monday. They can tag @Claude in the analytics channel and say, "Please gather last week's signup and conversion numbers and share a summary here every Monday morning." Claude will collect data from its connected tools, schedule the task, and share a clear recap in the thread each week, all without needing any spreadsheets or coding.
Getting started and staying in control
Claude Tag was built with security in mind. Administrators can decide exactly which tools and information Claude can access in each channel, and its memories stay scoped to those channels; a setup for sales work won't leak data or memories into one for engineering. Admins can also cap monthly token spend for the organization or individual channels and review a full log of everything Claude has done and who requested it.
Setup takes four steps:
- Pair Claude Tag with your Slack workspace, give Claude access to your tools, set a spending limit, and test it in a private channel.
Claude Tag will replace the older Claude in Slack app, and administrators have a 30-day window to opt in. Eligible Enterprise and Team organizations also receive an introductory launch credit so the whole company can try it.
The bottom line
Claude Tag will help integrate AI into your daily tasks within a platform most teams already use. This is especially helpful for non-technical professionals as it can reduce the need to switch between tasks, ask for help, or give instructions. If your organization uses Slack and also has Claude Enterprise or Team, consider tagging @Claude to find out what tasks it can handle for you.
