One of the most powerful features of ChatGPT is the Agent Mode. Agent mode helps you complete complex online tasks by reasoning, researching, and taking actions on your behalf. ChatGPT Agent mode can navigate websites, work with uploaded files, connect to third-party data sources (such as email and document repositories), fill out forms, and edit spreadsheets, while you remain in control.
ChatGPT agent can use a range of tools to complete tasks, including:
- Visual browser for interacting with websites.
- Code interpreter for running code and analyzing data.
- Apps for accessing data sources.
- Terminal for executing supported commands.
A task is usually completed within 5–30 minutes, depending on complexity.
Previously, I have shown several examples of ChatGPT agent mode in action, where I showed how you can use ChatGPT agent mode to automate your workflow, and I also made ChatGPT Agent Mode run Claude to automate a full workflow. In this article, I will show you how you can use ChatGPT Agent Mode to find discount codes for online shopping items.
Here's how to use ChatGPT Agent mode to find working discount codes:
Step 1: Make sure you are a ChatGPT Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise, and Edu user to access the Agent mode. To start using agent mode, select it from the tools menu or type /agent in the chatbox.
Step 2: Add the image of the item and prompt ChatGPT Agent Mode to find you the best discount codes.
Prompt: Find me discount codes for this item. Go to the site, add the item to the cart, and test different codes until one works.
Step 3: The agent will begin executing it. It will pause for clarification or confirmation when needed. You do not need any technical skills to start and run Agent mode. It can also be easily guided or interrupted mid-task, making it accessible to many users and adaptable to changing needs.
Editor's Note:
ChatGPT Agent Mode ran for 5 minutes and tested 4 discount codes, of which 2 were valid, and both provided a 20% discount according to ChatGPT. While that is indeed impressive, for some unknown reason, this only worked with the Vuori Clothing website. I tried using this to find Discount codes for Adidas, Nike, and H&M, but ChatGPT Agent Mode couldn't add the said item to the cart.
That could be ChatGPT Agent Mode's own technical issue, or those websites may not have allowed Agent Mode to add items to the cart. I even tried to take over the browser to add items manually, but it still didn't work. Those websites didn't even allow me to log in to my account.
It is safe to say that ChatGPT Agent Mode is, in fact, very capable and can find you valid, working discount codes that wouldn't work on every website. That could, however, change in the future and might work with other major websites.
