ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Claude vs Perplexity: I Tested Which AI Finds the Best Deals Online

Finding the best deals online isn't hard, but it takes hours as you search, compare, read reviews, test coupon codes, re-check prices, repeat. You could have opened 12 tabs at once, but still be wondering if the price will drop tomorrow. It is a draining process, but this could be where you start using AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or Perplexity AI to find the best deals on the internet.

Recently, I was looking for the best deals on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Initially, I was searching standard e-commerce platforms, which was really time-consuming. Then I remember the ChatGPT shopping research tool, which not only helped me find some of the best deals online but also saved me time. So, that made me wonder if other popular AI assistants can also help me do the same?

Hence, in this article, we'll be testing and asking popular AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity AI to help us find the best deals on 3 random products. The only two criteria we'll use to judge the performance would be:

  • Which platform can help us find the best deal?
  • The e-commerce platform's reliability (i.e., whether the suggested platform is trustworthy).

  • Perplexity Auto
  • Claude Sonnet 4.5

TL;DR

Item

Best “deal” winner

Best “reliability” outcome

Your practical takeaway

  1. (Ray-Ban Meta Gen-2)

Tie (all $379)

Tie (mostly official/major retailers).

Gemini wins on presentation; ChatGPT is the slowest.

  1. (RAM)

Gemini (lowest price)

Tie (mostly Newegg / major stores).

For performance, ChatGPT’s pick can still be the best even if pricier.

  1. (Sofa image search)

Claude (similar + 2nd least costly)

Gemini (official sites) | ChatGPT & Claude (Walmart).

Item A: Ray-Ban Meta (Gen-2)

Ray-Ban Meta (Gen-2) is the latest AI glasses that can react to what you see, take pictures and videos, listen on the go, make calls, and send messages without touching your smartphone. The current price on Meta's website for Ray-Ban Meta (Gen-2) is $379 US (as of writing this article).

Results:

  • All gave similar answers in terms of the best deal, $379 (original price), since the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen-2) was only released recently.
  • In terms of e-commerce platform suggestions, yet again, they all suggest similar websites like Best Buy, Meta, Ray-Ban, and other popular platforms.

No winners, but I liked Gemini's response format on this one; it gave me all the information one would need. ChatGPT was the slowest, which makes sense, but not ideal.

Item B: RAM

As most of you would be aware, there has been a crisis where Random Access Memory (RAM) costs have gone up all of a sudden. This is absolutely not the time to build a gaming PC, but if you are building one, you need 32GB of DDR5 RAM with solid Megahertz.

Results:

  • The results were neck-and-neck, but Gemini offered the lowest-cost option. However, it is to be remembered that low cost here doesn't mean the highest performance.
  1. Gemini: TeamGroup T-FORCE Vulcan 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-5600 PC5-44800 CL32 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit FLBD532G5600HC - Black [$309.99 US].
  2. Claude: Patriot Viper Venom 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) Desktop Memory Model PVV532G600C36K Compatible with AMD / Intel Gen14 Only [$344.99 US].
  3. Perplexity AI: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series AMD EXPO 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) Desktop Memory Model F5-6000J3636F16GX2-TZ5NR [$ 349.99 US].
  4. ChatGPT: Patriot Viper Venom 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) Desktop Memory Model PVV532G600C30K Compatible with AMD & Intel Gen14 Only [$369.99 US].
  • In terms of platform suggestions, again, they suggested a similar or the same platform in general, that being Newegg.

The above-mentioned prices were as of the writing of this article and could change. If you are actually planning to buy a high-performance RAM, out of the above ChatGPT suggested Patriot Viper Venom 32GB could be a good option.

Item C: Furniture

Let's say you like something you saw online, it could be a piece of clothing or furniture, and you want something either exactly the same or something similar to that. Which AI assistant can help you find it at the best price? I grabbed an image of a cozy sofa online, and I will ask these AI assistants to find me the best deal on something similar or the same sofa.

Results:

  • While none could find the exact match for the sofa, Claude, in my opinion, came back with the most similar-looking one, also the second least costly. Perplexity on the other side did not even give much help with finding the sofa model name. ChatGPT came up with a sofa that looked almost identical, and Gemini just listed a few high-end sofas.
  • Both ChatGPT and Claude's suggestions include Walmart, while Gemini recommended official websites, and Perplexity just listed things I should look for.

It was a challenging round, and all AI assistants did their best to recommend the best option.

In Conclusion:

So, the results are clear: AI assistants can help you find deals online, but whether those deals are the best or not is a subjective topic. ChatGPT shopping research is a useful feature that tries to get all the important information about your needs from the get-go, and the results it gives are mostly the best, but they take a lot of time. Others, however, do not have a dedicated shopping research tool like ChatGPT, but still can find you exactly what you want, sometimes better than ChatGPT and faster.

In my opinion, there is no one AI assistant you should choose; instead, run them side by side to see which one comes back with the result you want.
