Before diving into advanced frameworks, it helps to understand what an AI "agent" actually is and how it operates.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): A part of computer science focuses on creating systems that can do tasks usually done by humans. These tasks include understanding language, recognizing patterns, and making decisions.
  • Agent: The "AI doer." It can take inputs, make decisions, and take actions toward a defined goal using prompts and tools.
  • Environment: The digital space in which the agent operates in the context where it thinks, acts, and receives feedback.
  • Perception: The way an agent understands its environment by reading data, using user input, and responding to outside feedback signals.
  • Action: What the agent does in reaction to a prompt. It could be sending an email, generating a report, or calling an API.
  • State: A real-time snapshot of everything the agent is currently processing or aware of at a given moment.

  • Orchestration: This is the system that oversees how tasks move from input to decision to output among different tools and agents.
  • Planning: The step-by-step roadmap an agent creates to achieve a multi-step goal before executing it.
  • Evaluation: The process of measuring how well an agent performed against its intended objective, including accuracy, efficiency, and output quality.
  • Architecture: The full blueprint of an agent system showing how memory, tools, planning, and models are connected and interact.
  • CoT (Chain of Thought): A reasoning process that breaks a complex problem or topic into smaller, logical steps before coming to an answer.
